Optimist In Love

The wind ruffles my hair,

the sun heats my skin,

and I have goosebumps,

because as I inhale the sweet scent of new beginnings

I think of the stale summer days last year,

when I stumbled upon you—

hints of your cologne still linger on me

the thought of you leaves me wanting more,

and I day-dream about the past months,

a whirlwind of carnal need, lonely hearts and

careful promises—

As I navigate these winding roads,

for every turn that blinds me with the sun,

another shows me the rolling clouds in the distance,

and with a sureness I’m not sure I possess

I choose the path that shines,

I ignore the miles between us and exhale,

I’m going to be fine”.
